I am thrilled to announce that I am once again hosting a tour in Italy. The lovely Elizabeth Minchilli has asked me to take the reins and explore Parma with a small group of interested folks the week of October 22-28, 2023. To get more info email minchillitours at gmail dot com.
Parma sits at the center of one of the greatest culinary traditions in Italy. Parmigiano Reggiano, Prosciutto, Culatello and Balsamico are all made in the area. The region of Emilia Romagna has the greatest number of DOP and IGP (recognized and protected foods) in Italy. It’s also the region that developed and is famous for the most familiar Italian foods, think lasagne, ravioli, tortellini, tagliatelle. So there are plenty reasons to get excited about dining and exploring this extraordinary food culture.
I’ve been traveling to and through Italy since I was seventeen and it never gets old. Time there still feeds my soul while I’m feeding my tummy. The combination of cities in which modern life thrums amidst centuries old buildings filled with gasp inducing art and decoration feeds me as much as the food itself.
And then there are the people. No one is more welcoming and interested in giving of themselves than food people. So whether we’re visiting a large producer of prosciutto or Parmigiano Reggiano, a small pasta making “laboratorio,” or having a meal of lovingly made tortellini in brodo, be assured that your curiosity and your appetite will be well sated.
Each day we’ll leave the city to explore and eat our way through Emilia Romagna but will return to Parma so you’ll have plenty of time to explore on your own and shop till you drop. Parma is a great shopping town and truly one of the loveliest small cities in Italy.
One thing to keep in mind if you’re a vegetarian, lactose intolerant or celiac. Emilia Romagna is a meat and dairy centered, and gluten heavy region. Other Minchilli & Daughters tours are able to accommodate these needs more easily, while this tour, unfortunately cannot.
If you’re interested in joining me in Parma please click on the button below to send an email to receive more information and to book the tour. This is a small group and will fill quickly.
